Important Information for Return to In-Person Training

Hi Everyone,

I am excited to announce that the Chain of Command has authorized the return to in-person training this month.  The adult staff and senior cadets are excited to welcome cadets back to the Cartier Square Drill Hall. This was announced last Wednesday night at the end of our Escape Room Activity (A fun way to wrap up this last period of virtual training).

Some important information for cadets and parents/guardians. With the changing COVID-19 conditions the following protocols are still in effect for our training:

  • Social distancing, facemasks, sanitation protocols, COVID-19 screening, and contract tracing are still in effect. If changes are made to these policies, we will share them with you as soon as possible.

  • The cadet program still does not require COVID-19 vaccination proof but will respect the requirements of any facilities used that do request them.

  • The owner of the building we parade in only allows for cadets and CAF members to access the building. No visitors are allowed.

  • Cadets and staff with COVID-19 symptoms and or a positive COVID-19 test must report it to the Commanding Officer.  Potential exposures will be shared with parents/guardians.

With the pandemic still changing we still ask for everyone’s patience and understanding with any changes/cancellations that may still occur with training activities.

We ask everyone cadets and parent guardians to always check our website under “Important Information” on the main page before going to cadets to ensure there are no cancellations.  We strive to make these decisions with as much notice, and we do our best to communicate last-minute cancellations via the website, private Facebook group, and via phone calls.

As a reminder, the website is our primary method of sharing information regarding training activities, updates, and information.  The private Facebook group is leveraged for last-minute reminders or announcements.

If cadets and parents/guardians have any questions specific to COVID-19, please feel free to contact me via email.  Looking forward to seeing everyone next week!

Remembrance Day Activities 2021

November for Canadian Armed Forces members, veterans and cadets is a time of remembrance. As we take time on November 11 to remember the fallen soldiers who have risked their lives to fight for our freedoms. As such, we have activities to help commemorate those.

National Poppy Campaign, November 6-7

Our cadets will be at a couple of local stores around Downtown Ottawa and participating in the National Poppy Campaign. Cadets will be volunteering their time to sell poppies to the public. We are looking for volunteers for the AM (0900-1300hrs) or PM (1200-1700hrs) on both days.

Cadets will be paired with a senior cadet (16+, Gold Star+) and with a cell phone. For more information and how you can sign up, check out the post here.

National Remembrance Day Ceremony

Each year, we march alongside the Canadian Armed Forces during the National Remembrance Day Ceremony held in Downtown Ottawa. During this parade, thousands from across the country gather to commemorate the fallen soldiers. We are looking for cadets to participate in the parade on November 11 in the morning. For more information and how you can sign up, check out the post here.

With all these activities, you are able sign for Community Service Hours. If you would like to wear your uniform to school for any Remembrance Day activities, you must have authorization from the Commanding Officer.

Important Information for Return to In-Person Training

Hi Everyone!

Once again we thank you for your patience as we work on implementing our return to in-person training. The following information is super important for everyone to know and for a smooth transition.

In-Person Training Approval

Currently we need to submit approvals for every activity we do. Approvals can be cancelled in the 48hrs leading to training due to changes in the COVID-19 environment in our local area.

  • If training is going to be cancelled we will give you as much heads up as we can, but at the latest we will post in on the Facebook Group and Webpage under “Important Notices” no later than 4:00pm on Wednesday nights.

Screening for COVID-19

Staff and cadets are expected to take a screening for COVID-19 and show the Duty Officer the results when they arrive at the unit. To simplify the process please use the COVID-19 Self Assessment - School Screening. Cadets should complete the screening as a “student” and unit staff to complete as “employee”.

  • Please show up to the drill hall with the results ready to go to make the sign in process smoother.

Access to the Drill Hall

There are restrictions put in place by the Drill Hall which is military facility on access:

  • Only Canadian Armed Forces Members (adult staff) and cadets are allowed in the building.

  • No members of the public which includes parents and volunteers are allowed into the facility at this time.

  • All cadets must complete the “COVID-19 Awareness Course”. Cadets will not be allowed in the building if they have not completed it. This will be checked at the door during screening.

    • For instructions on how to take the course please click here.

    • To submit your certificate to the unit please email the copy to Natacha.Rueda@cadets.gc.ca

    • A nominal list of all who have completed it will be checked when when a cadet is signing in.
