Cadet Fitness Incentive Program (CFIP)
overview
The CFIP aims to promote physical fitness by helping cadets track their personal fitness level and plan their personal fitness goals. Within the CFIP, cadets complete the Cadet Fitness Assessment (CFA) in which participants are scored in the following categories:
cardiovascular endurance,
core strength,
upper body strength, and
lower body strength.
test details
Cadet units have the choice between two activities for each category, based on local resources and facilities. For the 2025-2026 training year, we will be conducting the following activities:
20-metre shuttle run (aka “beep test”),
curl-ups,
push-ups, and
squats.
Note: the flexibility component from previous years have been removed.
The cadets record their performance in each category (number of laps / repetitions) and are awarded points based on their age and gender.

Fitness badges
Based on their performance in the test, cadets may be eligible to receive fitness level badges which are worn on the service dress uniform:
Bronze (60 - 89 points),
Silver (90 - 114 points),
Gold (115 - 139 points), and
Excellence (140+ points).
In order to be eligible for a badge, a cadet must attain the minimum number of points and attempt all four categories.
Note that performance and participation in the CFIP is not a prerequisite for star level completion or promotion. However, cadets are advised that results may be used to determine eligibility for summer training courses or regional expeditions in future years (if policy so directs).
